Anglers as Role Models Announce 2008 Outing Date

Published February 28, 2008

The 2008 ARM Outing date has been set for Friday June 27th. Everts Resort will once again be hosting this event focusing on kids from the Big Bothers/Sisters organization for a fun day of fishing. Many of the kids have never had the opportunity to experience a day of fishing.

ARM, an acronym for Anglers as Role Models, is an organization created for introducing kids to the sport of fishing through non-competitive, organized events.

This outing has been a very rewarding experience for all of the folks involved and we certainly appreciate all of the support, past, present and future as we kick off the 2008 ARM Event! We will once again be having an on-line boater sign-up. Thanks to everyone who can participate!

It is our purpose at ARM to introduce children of all ages to fishing, at a beginner's level through experienced, seasoned anglers. This format not only teaches children successful methods and techniques for recreational fishing, but more importantly, it teaches them how to make it fun, memorable, and rewarding.

ARM is aiming to annually provide and sponsor multiple events and activities that will establish an equal opportunity for all children to learn, through their own eyes, why catching a fish is one of life's most cherished and memorable accomplishments. It's all about having fun, making new friends, treasured memories, and preserving a pastime that will last a lifetime.

ARM has been aligning it's efforts with other children focused charities, such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, by providing fishing events for their sponsored children and their respective guardians. Scheduled events and any event updates will be announced here on the ARM forum.

Testimonials:

When the kids and adults come in from fishing, their smiles make it all worthwhile. Most rewarding work I've ever done.
Brian, Volunteer

I have participated in the ARM event the last two summers. Each year the event keeps getting better due to the sponsors and volunteers. I fish several times throughout the year, but this one-day sticks out in my mind even on the coldest of January days. The anticipation for the next event starts the day after. I am truly blessed to be able to participate in this event. I hope to be part of it for years to come.
John, Volunteer

I'll tell you how it made me and my wife feel. This was the most incredible experience of my life, right after the birth of my son. It touched us so much, that my wife and I are going to be a big brother/big sister. I can't wait for this event this summer. What an unbelievable experience.

Boaters are responsible for providing equipment, expertise, patience, and a willingness to do some teaching and a readiness to have a good time.

There are always PLENTY of people willing and ready to help all the boaters out to ensure that boaters, bigs and littles have the best possible experience. That includes boat launching and loading, giving LOTS of advice about where the best bites are, helping kids into and out of the boats, etc.

For example, we were on a great crank bite last year. To get down to the head of the lake, we made a big conga line with experienced boaters in the front to lead a big group down the back channel to the head of the lake. There, we all formed up into lines and pulled cranks and hoisted in fish. At lunch, we all gathered up again and played follow the leader back to Everts.

The schedule has been for boater to arrive approx 7 am with a noon lunch break and back mid day, predetermined or earlier based on the kids desire. Some want to call it a day early but most don't want to quit at all!

After the kids have left for home,we have a great time re-capping the days events and have the chance to visit with some of the very best anglers you may ever meet!

The main commitment that we ask of you, is a sincere willingness to share some of your time with some kids that very rarely have the opportunity to get out on the water that most of us take for granted.

This is not about having a fancy boat or having to be the best angler,we will help everyone to make sure they are on the most current bite info available!
